Crochet

What is Crochet?

Crochet is the art of creating fabric by using a crochet hook to create interlocking loops.  The word "crochet" comes from the French "croche" (hook) and Old Norse "krokr" (hook).

US v. UK Terms

Crochet Terminology varies even within English-speaking countries.  There are two sets of standardized terms:  US & UK.  You can 'translate' a UK pattern into US terms, and vice versa, by remembering that the UK doesn't have a Single Crochet stitch.  The US Single Crochet is a UK Double Crochet, and the US Double Crochet in the UK Treble Crochet, and so on.

Basic Stitches

The basic crochet stitches are the foundation of crochet.  They vary in height and can be combined in endless ways for a variety of textured stitches!
